The Overlake Golf & Country Club sought to transform their clubhouse which was a blend of various dated architectural styles into a modern, design-focused structure. With a budget of $10 million, we were tasked to renovate the existing clubhouse which included locker rooms, meeting and lounge spaces and add a new bar and men’s lounge. Through these updates the club was able to create new revenue generating areas, retain their long-standing member base and attract younger members.
Envisioned with a “sense of place,” the newly-designed clubhouse optimizes the breathtaking views of the Overlake grounds, extending much of the outdoor experience into the indoors. The Pacific Northwest’s influence on the clubhouse is further reinforced through the color palette and materials which include wood, blackened steel, brass, and local stone and through the contemporary approach to the detailing.
The design reinvents the food, beverage and entertaining spaces. The previous bar was small forcing couples to dine in the men’s locker room. The best views on the property were occupied by a wall of lockers. A new bar and entertaining deck area was created allowing panoramic views of the course. The previous restaurant had a design that was an extension of the ballrooms spaces and lacked individuality or soul. The restaurant is now a light-filled space that opens to the wrap-around exterior decks. A four-sided fireplace anchors the room and creates inviting zones for the members to relax, socialize or catch a game. The locker room areas have additional lounge space for both men and woman. Meeting rooms and ballrooms were updated to add flexibility to the clubhouse and serve as private dining rooms, event spaces and quiet zone for the members.
