The ambience of a working environment heavily influences people’s happiness and engagement. Grey paint, dim lighting, and decades-old “inspirational” posters in the breakroom do little to motivate.

That is why when Indeed began renovating their Sunnyvale, CA offices, they wanted a space that prompted excitement, engagement, and action from its teams.

Across 38,525sf of work, the project team removed outdated systems and designs to make way for a $7.2 million modern space. The new design called for an open office that encourages collaboration and transparency among teammates, multiple breakrooms and lounge areas for recuperation, and huddle spaces. Special features included private phone rooms, a focus cave with dim lighting to encourage quiet thought, and superheroes.

Superheroes?

Yes, in the meeting rooms, teams work alongside their favorite superheroes, like Ironman, Captain Marvel, and Spiderman. While these heroes are only murals, they are inspirations reminding Indeed’s team to strive to do what’s right, be active, and care about the people they serve.

Attention to detail was paramount on this project with specialty acoustic treatments implemented along with high-end finishes. All of these elements serve one purpose—to maximize the project’s value for Indeed and create a high-quality workspace their team can thrive in.

One significant challenge on this project was working in an occupied building in a congested downtown location. Utilizing their expertise, the project team implemented practices that limited disruption. Another challenge was Indeed’s remote management team. Truebeck’s team introduced new technology (Matterport) to the construction industry to allow the Indeed team to virtually walk their California project from their New York offices.

The combination of technical expertise, innovative solutions, and a passion for building were all necessary to make the Indeed office a place of action and suspense—comparable only to a superhero’s headquarters.
