Tech Collaborative Hub Fosters Partnership with Clients
Hitachi America’s new world headquarters in a mixed-use development that represents a major step forward for the company’s northern California footprint as it consolidates four offices into a single space—enabling the electronics company to improve operational efficiencies, enhance communications across business units, attract top talent, and improve business outcomes through innovation.
Designed to reflect the culture of the firm and support collaboration across units, the 222,529-square-foot, six-floor office building houses Hitachi America, focusing on consumer electronics; Hitachi Vantara, which delivers data-driven solutions; Hitachi Insight Center, a state-of-the-art executive briefing center; and Hitachi Global Center for Social Innovation, a lab serving as Hitachi’s global R&D headquarters for collaborative creation. This cutting-edge facility provides customers and partners with a platform to resolve social issues, improve people’s quality of life and increase value through the use of digital technologies.
Completed in phases, the design includes adaptable open benching in a lab-like environment that can quickly be reconfigured according to changing needs. A training area, various-sized conference and teaming huddle rooms, impromptu gathering spaces, two cafes, gym—all designed to be energetic spaces with clean, open areas, plenty of natural daylighting, and thoughtfully placed booths for focused work or conversation—are in an urban setting within walking distance to restaurants and retail.
Design details reflect the corporate brand, beginning with a red burst along the lobby ceiling that serves as a metaphor for the speed of change in our digital era. Inside, the office integrates Japanese aesthetics recalling Hitachi’s origins combined with the tech look of Silicon Valley.
